Mentor 2.0
Structured mentoring that supports high school students through graduation and beyond.
MENTOR 2.0 IS NOW ACCEPTING NEW VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 2026–2027 SCHOOL YEAR!
We’re excited to welcome new mentors for the upcoming school year. To learn more about becoming a Mentor 2.0 volunteer, please contact Susan Chada at SusanC@SOAZBIGS.org.
How Mentor 2.0 Works
Mentor 2.0 matches high school students with caring adult mentors who commit four hours per month, two hours online and two hours in person. Through weekly guided emails and monthly school-based meetups, mentors provide steady encouragement and accountability as students think about graduation and their future.
The program currently serves freshmen at Tucson High School and Sunnyside High School, with plans to expand access so more Southern Arizona students can benefit from consistent, structured support during this pivotal stage of life.
What is Asked of Volunteers?
Mentor 2.0 is a one-school-year commitment designed to provide consistent support to students.
Volunteers agree to:
- One guided email each week, following a curriculum prompt and supported by a BBBS Case Manager
- One monthly in-person after-school event held at the student’s school
- Approximately four total hours per month during the academic year
Each interaction builds on the last, creating steady encouragement and real connection throughout the school year.
How to Get Involved?
To become a Mentor 2.0 volunteer, you must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have completed two years of college or be a high school graduate with professional life experience
- Have reliable internet access for weekly email communication
The process includes attending a one-hour Mentor 2.0 orientation, completing a 45-minute interview and background check, and participating in a 1–2 hour training session. Once approved, you’ll be matched with a student and begin your one-school-year mentoring commitment.
Why It Matters
Being a Big is about showing up and sharing real moments with a young person who needs a steady, positive influence. It doesn’t require special skills or a big budget, just consistency, encouragement, and a willingness to invest in a relationship.
Bigs often say they receive just as much as they give. What begins as volunteering can grow into a meaningful connection that changes a child’s life and often your own.
Southern Arizona’s kids deserve that kind of support, and together, we can make a Big difference.
Together, We Can Change a Story.
You don’t have to change the world. You can start with one relationship.
